Historical box scores (the model's training data)

sportsdataverse / hoopR data releases: team box scores, player box scores and schedules for every season since 2015-16, published openly by the SportsDataverse project (the hoopR package is MIT-licensed). The underlying statistics originate from ESPN; we publish derived statistics, not the raw files.

Availability

The official NBA injury report, published by the league as public PDFs for each game day, and ESPN's public injury feed for games the official report does not yet cover.

Rosters, scores, standings and recaps

Our scheduled pipeline reads rosters and the day's scoreboard from ESPN's public feeds (the same source the open-source hoopR project uses) several times a day. Standings are computed from final scores, and game recaps are written automatically from box scores. Your browser never calls a third-party sports API; every page reads our own published data.

Market lines

Spreads, totals and moneylines from US sportsbooks are collected a few times a day from The Odds API by our pipeline and shown as neutral market data beside the model, with a consensus (median) and de-vigged implied probabilities. When it is unavailable or over its monthly budget, the pipeline falls back to ESPN's odds feed, then to the DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM public pages, then to the Kalshi exchange, then to the last line we stored — and labels every line with its book, source and time. HoopVantage has no relationship with any sportsbook.

Fallbacks

If a primary source fails, the pipeline retries ESPN with a normal browser user agent, and uses stats.nba.com for scores, schedule, rosters and box scores only as a last live fallback, gently rate-limited. Every fallback use is logged and counted on the methodology page.

What we do not use

• No sportsbook links or affiliate relationships.
• No scraping of Basketball-Reference, whose terms restrict it.

Freshness

A scheduled job refreshes data, availability and projections several times a day during the season; each page shows when the model last updated.
